I have been a student of Network Marketing for over 15 years; and in that time I’ve tried to learn as much as I can. I have even used the principle to build a traditional company in the past with good results. In my opinion, it is the most efficient and the most cost effective way of getting a product – any product – from manufacturer to the consumer! And I might add that it is the only Industry that offers the average person a chance to live the life of their dreams! This is where your previous experience and achievement, or the lack of them are not required to succeed! Organized properly, a Network Marketing company’s activities can become a self development program with a compensation plan attached. Let me show you why:

Traditionally, manufacturers send their finished products to Wholesalers, who usually own the warehouses. This is where the guys who own the big trucks, Distributors, would turn up for work. Their job is to transport the products to Retail shops, making them readily available to consumers. Along the way, each group would add a little more to the price for their service. This is called mark-ups, and they make products more expensive in the long run. This process is called RETAIL SALES.

On the other hand, a manufacturer may choose to send a customer a catalogue to select what they want from the comfort of their home. When a company eventually fulfills an order received this way, it cuts out the Wholesaler, the Distributor, and the Retailer in the chain; and offers the customer a lower price for the same product. However, the cost of producing volumes of the glossy pages of persuasion and delivering them can all add up. We call these CATALOGUE SALES.

Then there is the tough arena of DIRECT SALES. Here a sales person usually turns up at the door when family members are about to have dinner! It can even be a pre-booked appointment. It doesn’t matter. Either way, a company rep visits the consumer at home to explain the merits of a product. In high value products, the customer may sometimes give in to the “sale pressure” in the presentation and “buy” only to cancel later. If a commission has been paid, this is clawed back and usually deducted against the rep’s next sale!

With companies always on the lookout for ways to increase sales, they have developed another method of taking the presentation of, especially new offers to consumers when they least expect it - VENUE SALES! This is the shopping centre walk ways guerrilla tactic in selling! As you hop from one shop to the other in your favourite shopping centre, you are almost accosted by individuals in clean cut business suites trying to sell you something! If the sales person happens to be working for straight commissions with no basic, let alone residuals, they are always out of pocket until the next sale! And sometimes you can detect this in their desperate approach!

Now since time immemorial, we always seem to be raving about some good deals we had come across to our friends. If you think about it, by doing so, we are literally sending customers to these companies at the cost of our telephone bills, time, and energy, topped up with passion! We just don’t get paid for it when our recommendations turn into sales! When this old habit is organised into a commercial activity, it is the most effective means of moving a product from a company to the consumer. Entry requirements for would-be participants are simple enthusiasm and a willingness to learn how to start from zero to hero! This is what NETWORK MARKETING is all about!

If you happen to be involved with the other forms of sales systems as described above, and you are getting a good basic plus good commission, it is almost certain that the company will lay you off once they have reached the customer base they are looking for! Yes, you work your socks off to bring the customer to the company, and for your troubles, you get paid on the initial sale, and that’s it! The company gets to keep the customer for possible repeat sales or any up-selling planned! That is, the art of selling to the customer base of other products, though related to their initial purchase, which they may not otherwise know even, existed!

With Network Marketing, you introduce the customer to the company once, and every time they buy from the company, you get paid! From then on, you may choose to talk to a few more people to increase your customer base! You can do this in your own time, and when you do, it can literally multiply your monthly commissions over time! The more you learn to help other team members get what they want, the more rewards you earn! How? You get paid on other peoples’ sales activities in your team! The minute you understand this, you would have uncovered the building blocks of creating an ever growing monthly income that others can only dream about!

As an individual married with three children, I can testify to the fact that if you are fortunate enough to find a legitimate home based business that will give you the time-freedom you need when raising your children; it will be, put simply, the best time in your life!

You see, apart from CATALOGUE SALES, I have been involved in all the sales processes as described above. I know the modules inside out. I have either employed the services of one type or the other as a business owner in the past, or I have worked for other companies as a Sales Representative when my time as the Managing Director for a recruitment company I had ran for five years in the UK came to an end! And I can say without hesitation that among the different marketing methods, Network Marketing, also referred to as Multi Level Marketing sometime, is the only sales system that is built on a philosophy of sharing the profits fairly, and more importantly creating Residual Incomes in the process for the Independent Representatives involved – working from home.
